Dad here...

To say that this will "change your life" is only half the truth.

When I say I'm a skeptic, you will agree. Along with that skepticism, add equal parts sarcasm, scientist and a general inability to shut one's mouth and you'll get me. School taught me that a complicated series of chemical reactions, simply molecules doing what they do, is what forms a human being and by extension, everything walking, crawling, flying, swimming and growing on this earth.

As I looked at the monitor and saw this little, quiet, out-of-focus visitor, nestled comfortably inside my wife, the doctor said something, but I wasn't really listening. My heartbeat was quickly increasing to the speed of the miniature heart on the screen. I thought to myself, he or she has a little heart that's gonna love Mommy and Daddy one day, a brain that will put up with Dad's stories about the good old days, and little beginnings of arms that will one day hold onto the love of his or her life. "It's about the size of a lima bean," I heard, catching the end of his standard issue, textbook explanation of what we were looking at.

I'm not one to wax philosophical, nor religious, but no amount of schooling can explain the feelings, thoughts, and shear amazement that I experienced while I looked at that little person. I used to ask people why we don't witness miracles, like in the times described by the Bible.

I think that monitor was a little reminder that the miracles never ceased.

I love you hunny, and you too Baby Premo.

  1. Travis...you are a wonderful husband to our baby and you will be a wonderful Daddy to your lil one. Plese enjoy every second of Nikki's pregnancy(yes, even when she has morning sickness and it lasts the entire day.) These nine months will go by so fast(even though it may not seem like it since you are anxiously awaiting such a special delivery!) We are so excited for this special little miracle to arrive-and it is just that. A very special MIRACLE! We love all 3 of you, so please take good care of each other while you await their debut! Love,Mom & Dad (a.k.a Mommy & Daddy)
